As part of a citywide campaign to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic in Düsseldorf, I was tasked with animating static billboard illustrations. Using the original Illustrator files, I recreated the composition in After Effects, added motion graphics, and produced a subtle yet eye-catching promotion displayed throughout Düsseldorf.
The kissing masks effectively conveyed that wearing masks meant caring for each other. Making the masks move in an organic and passionate way breathed life into them.
The moving masks stepping in unison symbolised the collective effort of people coming together to fight the pandemic. By subtly randomising the motion and timing of the steps, I avoided a robotic feel and instead made it seem like real people walking.
The three plasters being applied to the same spot represented the vaccine and subsequent booster shots. Using After Effects’ Page Turn effect, I achieved the look and feel of a real plaster being applied to a wound.
