In the redesign of the User Interface for Erste's self service cash machines, I was tasked with creating micro-interaction animations that would help bridge the gap between digital and real-world banking. Subtle animations help orient the user in the task they are trying to accomplish and then guide them into the next action wether it be on screen or in the real world.
The deposit screens were designed to instruct users to organise their notes into a neat pile and insert them into the machine. The movement of the graphics depicting coins, paper clips, and receipts with a strikethrough effectively conveyed that these items should not be deposited into the slot.
The withdrawal screen guides users to take their money and place it into their wallet. The system displays the correct denomination for the withdrawal accordingly.
Micro animations of the money rolls moving up and down, combined with the quantity indicator, subtly convey when items are being added or removed.
